NASA Activates Roman Space Telescope’s Powerful New Instrument

NASA has successfully activated a major instrument aboard the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, marking an important step in preparing the observatory for future space research. According to NASA, the telescope team successfully activated its Wide Field Instrument, an infrared camera with a 300-megapixel detector. The instrument is designed to survey large areas of the universe while maintaining detailed observations. The Roman Space Telescope is also testing its Coronagraph Instrument, a technology designed to help scientists study objects that are difficult to observe because of the bright light from nearby stars. NASA says the initial tests are part of the spacecraft’s ongoing preparation and checkout process. Scientists expect the telescope to provide wide-field observations that can contribute to research on galaxies, stars, planets and the expansion of the universe. The activation of the instrument is another milestone for the Roman Space Telescope as NASA continues preparing it for its scientific mission. The mission is expected to give astronomers a broader view of the universe and help researchers investigate some of the biggest questions in modern astronomy. Source: NASA
